Citizens Police Academy

The Old Town Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy is designed to give community members an inside look at how the Police Department operates, including our policies and procedures. This program is not intended to train participants as police officers, but to help the public better understand the duties and responsibilities of law enforcement.

Classes are led by highly trained officers from the Old Town Police Department and other agencies, providing diverse perspectives and expertise. Our goal is to foster a stronger, more cooperative relationship between the police and the community, reduce misconceptions about police work, and promote a positive understanding of the challenges and responsibilities of law enforcement.

Participants will also have the opportunity for hands-on experiences through role-playing exercises, including mock traffic stops, arrests, investigations, court appearances, and use-of-force demonstrations.

The Citizens Police Academy is an eight-week program with weekly two-hour sessions. Participation is free of charge.

The program features presentations from a variety of officers and law enforcement professionals to cover a wide range of topics. At the conclusion of the program, participants will be invited to a graduation ceremony, where family and friends are welcome to attend.
