The City of Old Town Police Department is actively seeking motivated applicants for the position of Patrol Officer. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

-Be at least 20 years old with 60 college credit hours, or 21 years of age
-Qualified candidates may also be required to pass an oral board interview

-Passing scores on the MCJA physical fitness test preferred, but not required before applying 
-Prior to hire, applicants may undergo medical, psychological, and polygraph testing, as well as a comprehensive background check

Wages: 
Starting Hourly Wages (Effective July 1, 2025)
Starting at $31.51 (lateral entry) up to $40.63 (top step after eight years of service)

Longevity Pay:
5 years: $25 per week
10 years: $30 per week

15 years: $35 per week
20 years: $40 per week
25 years: $45 per week
(This is factored into the hourly wage)

Vacation Time:

One week during the first year
Two weeks after completing the first year
Three weeks after three years
Four weeks after nine years
Five weeks after 15 years

Holidays:
13 holidays plus one floating holiday. Holiday pay is time and a half, in addition to receiving pay for the holiday whether or not you work. A holiday bonus to received at the end of the year in a lump sum.

Physical Fitness Incentive:
Up to four vacation days off per year for passing the physical fitness requirement.
Officers can work out while on duty, with access to the fitness room at the station.

Sick Leave:

Sick time is accrued at eight hours per month, with a maximum limit of 960 hours. Upon separation, sick time is paid out based on the length of employment, up to 50%.
Sick day bonuses are awarded twice a year.

Compensatory Time Off:
Overtime may be compensated with compensatory time off up to 80 hours.

Retirement:
The City of Old Town offers the Maine Public Employees Retirement System, which provides 2/3 pay after 25 years with no age requirement, or a competitive 457 plan.
