GENERAL ASSISTANCE NOTICE
The City of Old Town administers a General Assistance program pursuant to Title 22 M.R.S.A. § 4305, the municipal officers have adopted an ordinance establishing that program. A copy of this ordinance and relevant statutes are available for public inspection at the General Assistance Office located at 265 Main Street, Old Town.
Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may do so at 265 Main Street, Old Town during the following times:
Tuesday and Thursday between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
In an emergency, applicants may contact Old Town Police Department at (207) 827-6358.
The General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving an application. If the municipality refuses to take your application or if you are denied assistance and have questions, call the Department of Health & Human Services General Assistance Hotline toll free telephone number 1-800-442-6003, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you call after 5:00 P.M. leave a message with the phone number and you will be contacted the next business day.
